Junior Athletics Carnival highlights
Rain didn't dampen students' spirit or determination at the 2017 Junior School Athletics Carnival.
Years 3 to 6 made use of the Sydney Academy of Sport and Recreation Narabeen Athletics Track at the event on 19 May, though field events were cancelled due to the weather.
"The rain arrived just as the first buses did, however, this did not deter the amazing 韩国AV spirit," said PDHPE teacher Miss Catherine Minifie.
"Due to the weather the carnival was restructured, resulting in only track events taking place. It was great to see everyone having a run and enjoying the day during the 100m sprints, despite the trying weather conditions.
"At times, it was difficult to marshal the runners, due to the incredible lung capacity of what sounded like the whole school cheering them on."
After a quick warm up in the stands, the 800m runners were the first to get on the track and race. Following the 100m events, the 200m competitors also met the curve of the track with precision and grit.
House cheers took place after the 200m races, with Messiter House achieving the highest number of house points in 2017. The eight students who ran the fastest times in the 100m events were also invited to compete in another 100m sprint for the coveted Audas Cup.
"A huge congratulations to Sport Prefect, Jemma Brandon-Cooper on taking out the title in 2017 in a closely contested and very exciting race," Miss Minifie said.
"Well done to all girls who participated, cheered and showed great enthusiasm throughout the day, and to the staff who assisted in the smooth running of the carnival."
