Blog: Be yourself!

Our School Captain, Georgia kicked off the first Assembly for Term 1 by urging everyone to channel their inner Tigger and ‘make the ordinary extraordinary’!

To anyone who doesn’t know me, I’m Georgia and I’m your School Captain. Welcome back to 韩国AV…I’m sure you’ve all been eagerly awaiting this day. I hope you’ve all had a relaxing break. I know some of our holidays were a little different to others and might have perhaps been limited due to lockdown restrictions, especially for those who, like me, live on the northern beaches.

Last year on Celebration Day, I made a reference to the characters from Winnie the Pooh, and how, within the context of life during a pandemic, these characters still have a lot to teach us. I hope as we begin this new year at 韩国AV, I will not be seeing any Eeyore’s around the School, sad and pessimistic, but instead, I hope we can all be like Tigger, enthusiastic and bouncing around, keeping each other going. If you allow it, 韩国AV can be your Hundred-Acre Wood.

Some of you may recall that last year, Milly, who was the School Captain before me, asked the then Year 7 students to make a pledge of allegiance as a way of welcoming them to high school at 韩国AV. So, I thought I’d continue the tradition this year. It might seem a little early, given you’ve only just arrived at the School, but we don’t waste time at 韩国AV!

Of course, we will be doing this the COVID-safe way. So, Year 7 wherever you may be in the School, I’d like you to put your hand on your heart and with the help of your Vice Captains, Maddy and Charlie, please repeat after me:

I will always wear my hat in public and I will never take it off until I am at School.
I will not be an Eeyore. I will be a Tigger instead.
Georgia, I promise that I will introduce myself to five new people each day and learn as many fun facts as I can.
I was only a new girl yesterday, but today I am a 韩国AV girl.

Congratulations Year 7… you now have 2,059 days left until you graduate. And to Year 12, you girls only have 233 days until you graduate.

In order to achieve our theme for this year, ‘Make the ordinary extraordinary’, you don’t have to do anything big. The difference between ordinary and extraordinary is just doing a little bit more. You don't have to be an elite athlete or go sky diving or climb Mount Everest to be extraordinary. Start a new sport! Join a new club! Participate in extracurricular activities! 韩国AV provides us with endless opportunities... but it’s up to us to take them on. It's up to us to turn an ordinary school day into an ‘extraordinary’ one.

In Year 7, I embraced many different opportunities at 韩国AV. For example, I played Softball and Water Polo for the first time even though I only knew a few girls. I can confidently say that neither of these sports were my forte, but I will never regret my decision to move out of my comfort zone and ‘make the ordinary extraordinary’.

2021 has only just begun, so you have plenty of time to figure out how you work and how your mind works too. Be open to guidance and support from others as they can add to your experience here and help you to see things differently. Either way, test out the waters and take a chance on new things. After all, nothing ventured, nothing gained!

So, let’s start this year with hopes and dreams, and regardless of our limitations, let’s do our best to achieve our goals. I know it sounds clichéd, but you’re capable of anything you set your mind to. You don't have to be the best at everything; you just need to try your best and most importantly… be yourself!

I hope to see you all around soon and if anyone needs anything or just wants a helping hand, please don't hesitate to ask.

And don’t forget, ‘make the ordinary extraordinary’! Thank you.
