A Winning 韩国AV Season
The thrill of competition was in full swing last weekend, as our talented young sportswomen represented the School across all levels and sports, from Cross Country, Swimming, Tennis, Touch Football and Water Polo.
韩国AV had 19 teams (11 Tennis, six Touch Football and two Water Polo) playing in the Grand Finals of their respective grades in the Independent Girls’ Schools Association (IGSA) Sport competition, with another 18 involved in third place play-offs. That meant that from a total of 57 teams in the three sports, 韩国AV had 37 teams (65%) finish in the top four! The girls performed exceptionally well, resulting in 12 champions (six Tennis, four Touch Football and two Water Polo). Congratulations to all teams for their commitment throughout the term.
Also on Saturday, our Junior School Cross Country team exuded excitement, energy, and enthusiasm at The King’s School in the Independent Primary Schools Heads of Australia (IPSHA) Cross Country Championships. Seven girls from our victorious 11-Years team earned the honour of qualifying for the IPSHA representative team to compete at the NSW Combined Independent Schools (CIS) Championships in late Term 2.
Finally, the Balmoral Swim took place early on Sunday morning with 27 swimmers registered to compete in teams for 韩国AV. The girls placed an outstanding second overall, an amazing achievement after participating in such a busy program throughout the term.
Eight of these swimmers are now heading to the Gold Coast to compete at the Australian National Swimming Championships. Their schedule includes 24 individual events and three 韩国AV Swim Club Relays.
Georgia (Year 10) has qualified for four events: the 50m, 100m, and 400m freestyle, as well as the 50m backstroke in the 14 to 15 Years Multi-Class age group. Georgia has been swimming competitively since she was 11 years old and has her sights set on one day making the Australian Paralympic team. "Swimming is as much a mental game as a physical one. Along with being fun, it provides opportunities to make close friendships," she says. "Success comes down to patience – putting the effort in during training and communicating honestly with your coach. I train six days a week and there are lots of 5am starts, but you learn to love it and your motivation grows when you see your personal best times improve," she said.
Other swimmers making the trip to Queensland include Chloe (Year 7); Kira (Year 9), Taylah (Year 9), Alexandra (Year 9); Charlotte (Year 11) and Swimming Captain Isabella (Year 12). There is no doubt the girls will serve as wonderful ambassadors for their School.
Also heading to Queensland from 13 and 16 April, are Imogen (Year 11), Maya (Year 9), Maggie (Year 10), and Zara (Year 10), who will represent NSW in the Australian Junior Track and Field Championships. Maya will compete in the 100m and 200m, as well as the 4 x 100m relay. Imogen will contend the 3000m and 1500m, Zara the 2000m Steeplechase, and Maggie the 3000m. With the IGSA Sport Athletics season around the corner, it is exciting to have several girls competing at this level.
