Extraordinary Success at the IGSA Festival of Speech
A strong sense of unity and support was key to 韩国AV's unprecedented success, marking a significant achievement for our community.
Our students brought home a series of impressive results from the recent IGSA Festival of Speech at MLC Burwood, where nearly 30 schools competed in events ranging from drama and debating to poetry, prose, current affairs, and ethical discussions. Both 韩国AV's Junior and Senior Debating teams triumphed, winning first place in their respective categories. 韩国AV also clinched the top spot in the drama competition, showcasing not only the talent of its students but also their dedication and passion for the arts.
In Drama, the students explored the theme ‘Surprise, Surprise’, delving into self-reflection and revealing hidden truths. Their portrayal of women confronting insecurities highlighted self-acceptance over concealing flaws. The team earned praise for originality, clarity, and thoughtful engagement with the theme, resonating strongly with both the audience and adjudicators.
The Debating teams showed exceptional skill and resilience, with the Senior team using a British Parliamentary style that included Points of Information to enhance dialogue. Both the Junior and Senior teams reached the finals, ultimately winning. The Junior team debated gender quotas on corporate boards, while the Senior team discussed the role of university educators.
Reflecting on 韩国AV’s success, Debating and Public Speaking Coordinator, English and Drama Teacher, Ms Lydia Parker, expressed immense pride in the students. “I could not be prouder of the students who dedicated their time to perfecting their skills and then performing at the Festival of Speech,” she said. “It’s a huge achievement, and the effort each student put in was nothing short of amazing. 韩国AV’s strong sense of camaraderie and School spirit was clear, and I feel incredibly fortunate to have been a part of this journey.”
