Historic Achievement
韩国AV's Class of 2024 Sets New Academic Benchmarks
韩国AV's Class of 2024 has achieved the School's strongest HSC results in recorded history, with multiple records broken and an overall state ranking of 27th.
The historic achievements include our highest ever median ATAR of 92.95 and mean of 91.8, alongside record-breaking proportions of high achievers. An unprecedented 62.9% of our students attained ATARs above 90, while 37.8% reached the exceptional benchmark of 95+. The cohort also received a record 44 HSC Showcase nominations and seven selections.
Leading the cohort’s success was our Dux, Milly Simpson, who recorded an ATAR of 99.65 and secured first place in the state in Modern History. The depth of excellence across the year group also saw 11 students named as All-rounders: Emma Baldwin, Lucy Bennett, Isabella Clark, Amelia Crouch, Imogen Holliday, Zanthe Juric, Amelie Kovacs, Yasmin Liew, Jessica Moynihan, Elena Norquay, and Angelina Woodward.
For Isabella Clark, who placed ninth in English Extension 2, success came through finding balance. "I think this year the key for me was learning to take breaks,” she said. "Previously, I studied in the holidays and by the time I got to the important assessments and exams, I was already burnt out. This year, I learned that you need to have one activity that creates a sense of pause each day to keep you going. It might be a walk or some time with friends, just to break up the study momentum.”
Exploring the intersection of feminism and literature, Isabella’s Extension 2 project stemmed from her interest in the complexities and nuances of the feminist movement. "I think sometimes it can feel quite exclusive and therefore frustrating," she explained, describing how she combined critical analysis with fiction to explore these themes.
Imogen Holliday partly attributes her fifth place in Spanish Continuers to embracing the unique challenges of language learning. "I really enjoyed learning a language for HSC because it's a very different way of learning from most other subjects," she explained. "I really like how there are always new things to learn and improve on as learning a language is a constant process."
Zali Gee's ninth place in PDHPE reflected her passion for sports, particularly basketball. "If, as a student of PDHPE, you branch out and spend time watching and immersing yourself in a large range of different sports, you will set yourself apart when it comes time for the exams. It won’t feel like study but it actually will be," she explained. "Connecting the PDHPE syllabus to real life examples is the best advice I can give anyone preparing for their PDHPE exams.”
All three students highlighted the importance of their teachers’ support and 韩国AV’s collaborative learning environment. Isabella, who was supported in her English Extension 2 work by teacher, Ms Annette Fyfe, noted, "They really went above and beyond including my Modern History teacher who marked an extraordinary amount of essays and my Maths teacher, who put together crazy amounts of booklets and resources."
For Zali, the influence of her PDHPE teacher, Mr Mark Kelly, was significant. "He inspired us with his infectious passion for the subject. Getting that kind of external motivation definitely pushed me to study as hard as I could."
Imogen also reflected on the impact of a vibrant classroom dynamic. "Working with the class in Spanish really helped me to improve and really enjoy learning," she shared. "I'm also incredibly appreciative of my Spanish teacher who helped me to build confidence and made the subject so engaging and interesting to learn."
This year’s historic results demonstrate not only academic excellence, but 韩国AV’s emphasis on balanced, sustainable approaches to learning. Isabella plans to pursue a combined Bachelor of Arts and Law degree. "I do kind of just love learning and researching. Perhaps one day I will work in academia but for the moment I just plan to go to university and enjoy studying.”
