Students chop their hair for charity

On Thursday 8 September, about 28 students volunteered to have their hair chopped and donated to Sustainable Salons and Variety Children鈥檚 Charity, both non-profit organisations dedicated to providing wigs for cancer and alopecia sufferers.
Organised for the second year running by Miranda of Year 12, about 100 pony tails, 20cm in length were donated for the making of wigs. Miranda was prompted to spearhead the initiative in 2015 after witnessing her aunty lose hair due to cancer treatment.
鈥淚 know a lot of women struggle with being bald,鈥 she said. 鈥淚 thought it鈥檚 something that is easy to do, it鈥檚 free, and it鈥檚 a resource that anyone can donate.鈥
Sustainable Salons cofounder Paul Frasca and a team of hairdressers from TAFE volunteered their haircutting expertise on the day. The event ran with a concurrent bake sale with funds going to Cancer Council.
