Tinsel time for boarders
Christmas tree decorations became fashion accessories to many red-and-green outfits when our boarders’ Monday night formal dinner turned into a festive Christmas in winter – this Term’s themed dinner.
Principal Dr Scott and Deputy Principal Mr Watt joined all the boarders, Head of Boarding Nonie Ayling and four staff for traditional Christmas fare: turkey, glazed ham, plus less traditional fig, pumpkin and chick-pea tajine, followed by popular Australian dessert, pavlova.
Some of the boarders hadn’t heard of the mid-year Christmas ‘event’, which has been embraced – especially in cold climes – as a time to enjoy hot Christmas feasts as many of our Northern Hemisphere ancestors did. Any surprise about the event didn’t stop diners sporting a little tinsel!
Boarders enjoy themed dinners each term: September’s dinner will see plenty of denim and flares for a Saturday Night Fever evening, followed by October’s Halloween dinner then a regular summer Christmas dinner at the end of Term 4.
