2019 Term 3

  • A great week for Social Sciences - With a guest speaker and an excursion for our Year 11 Legal Studies students, and a fantastic HSC workshop for our Year 12 Business Studies students, it’s been a huge week of learning for Social Sciences.
  • A hole-in-one for Year 7 Science - Most of us have had the pleasure of playing Putt-Putt (or mini golf), but unlike our Year 7 Science students, not many of us have designed an actual course.
  • Building global awareness - What better way to increase global perspective, understanding and insight than by participating in the Model United Nations Assembly (MUNA) 2019 competition.
  • Celebration time come on Year 3! - Last term, Year 3 began an inquiry-based learning project into religious celebrations. This term, they presented their very own religious artefacts, poems and information reports at a spectacular showcase in the Piazza.
  • Creative Arts Tour 2019 - In the July holidays, 38 Creative Arts students from Years 10 and 11 headed off to Amsterdam, Paris and New York, accompanied by Ms Jalili, Ms McNally, Mr Newall and Ms Carson.
  • Farewell Class of 2019 - Over the past week, we’ve bid farewell to the Class of 2019. There’s been laughter, tears and lots of happy memories.
  • Game of Thrones Year 8-style - On Tuesday, our Year 8 History students stepped back in time 953 years, to re-enact the Battle of Hastings between King Harold of England and William, Duke of Normandy.
  • Happy 133rd birthday º«¹úAV - On the last day of Term 2, the School community came together to celebrate a very special birthday: º«¹úAV turned 133!
  • Inanimate Alice sparks Year 6’s curiosity - The beautiful digital series, Inanimate Alice is transforming the way Year 6 students tell stories, and it is captivating even the most reluctant reader.
  • Science Week at º«¹úAV - The theme of National Science Week this year is 'Destination Moon'. And to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the moon landing, º«¹úAV has enjoyed talks from a space lawyer, a former NASA scientist and a world leading expert on stars.
  • Secret-powered Book Week at º«¹úAV - From author talks, to cartooning workshops, to writing competitions, to book character parades, our talented librarians organised lots of fun and inspiring activities this week for book lovers of all ages.
  • Spring Fair and Art Show - It was a wonderful weekend for the º«¹úAV community, with the º«¹úAV Alumnae Association’s Art Show and the º«¹úAV Parents’ Association’s Spring Fair.
  • Welcome to the Kindy Museum - Have you ever stopped to think how you would describe a museum? Kindergarten have been reflecting on this, which has led to them creating - and curating - their very own Kindergarten Museum!
  • º«¹úAV go for gold in Bathurst - The gold rush and the diggers who worked in the goldfields are etched into Australian folklore, as our Year 5 students discovered on their recent 3-day camp at Bathurst.
  • º«¹úAV’s Duke of Ed adventures - Our Bronze and Silver Duke of Edinburgh students grabbed their backpacks and headed outdoors during the July holidays, putting their training and teamwork to the test.
  • º«¹úAV’s Wizard of Oz - Last weekend, the º«¹úAV community went off to see the Wizard, the wonderful Wizard of Oz. He was definitely ‘a whiz of a whiz’, as were the cast, crew and musicians!
  • Year 3 embrace celebration - A ‘See, Think, Wonder’ exercise based on five of the world’s major religions was a perfect launch pad for Year 3 to explore some great critical thinking this week.
  • Year 5 get Lost in Space - How does Earth compare to other planets in the Solar System? Year 5 have been pondering this question and coding Spheros to work out how each planet orbits around the Sun.
  • Year 5 shape it up - This week, our Year 5 students got to grips with computational thinking, learning how to alter their outlook to grasp the world in the same way a computer does.
  • Year 9 STEM create solar power - The future of Australia’s solar power will be bright if Dr Thompson’s Year 9 STEM students have anything to do with it.
