Farewell Class of 2019
Over the past week, we’ve bid farewell to the Class of 2019. There’s been laughter, tears and lots of happy memories.
The long goodbye began on Friday, with Year 12 drawing a line under their final day of formal classes with a Willy Wonka-themed Muck Up Day. The day kicked off with a delicious breakfast with Dr Scott, Year 12 Coordinator, Ms Langford and other staff.
The girls had gone to tremendous effort to recreate their º«¹úAV uniform in homage to Roald Dahl, with lots of inspired handiwork.
Everyone loves bubbles. The bigger the bubbles the more we love them, so at recess on Friday, Year 12 came together in the Undercroft once again for singing, dancing, skipping and giant bubbles.
On Monday, the º«¹úAV Alumnae Association organised a beautiful Farewell lunch. Nine of the Year 12 mums who are also alumnae, helped to organise the event.
Many of their teachers joined the students for what was a very special occasion, and the students had an opportunity to thank the Executive, presenting them with flowers.
The º«¹úAV Alumnae Farewell Lunch is a significant event for the Class of 2019, marking their transition from students to alumnae. There were speeches from the President of the º«¹úAV Alumnae Association, Mrs Jennifer Mildren (Stiel, 1987), Head Prefect 2018/19, Olivia Edwards, and Dr Scott. Dr Scott and the new º«¹úAV Student Alumnae Representative for 2019/2020, Paige Sedgwick, cut the cake together.
It was another memorable and moving morning on Tuesday, with Year 12 and their parents attending their last service together at St Thomas’ Church. It culminated in what has become a º«¹úAV tradition: the tossing of the º«¹úAV hats.
Parents joined their daughters for a delicious Morning Tea in the Undercroft, before heading off for the Valedictory Assembly and Prize Giving.
Senior Choir gave a rousing performance of Freddie Mercury’s Don’t Stop Me Now. Dr Scott, Deputy Chair of the Board of Governors, Mrs Jillian Masselos and President of the º«¹úAV Alumnae Association, Mrs Jennifer Mildren (Stiel, 1987), presented the Year 12 prizes, graduation certificates and the º«¹úAV Alumnae Association gift. Two students were awarded Dux, Isabella Taplin and Emma Cree. Congratulations girls!
Head of Senior College, Mrs Kerr, paid tribute to the Class of 2019 with a funny speech about each girl’s journey through º«¹úAV, including some of their more memorable moments. There was lots of laughter and even more happy tears.
And finally, on Wednesday, the girls and their parents attended a formal dinner at Daltone House.
Fare thee well Class of 2019. We are going to miss you!
